Sunday Forum 1 R
FROM THE RECTOR

Long conversations and peaceful silences- a quick catch up on how things have been;  in rest- time to stop and think. Now back at work there are  exciting and worthwhile projects to resume.    We are built for this alternation- for engagement and rest, for connection with others and for times of self-reflection.  Undergirding both is the gracious presence of God, who has created us to live in the changing patterns of night and day, of solitude and companionship- and who calls us to work and pray, to delight in the Sabbath and to exercise the great gifts of creativity and imagination.

Individuals and communities both live within these patterns.  It is probably fair to say that as a parish we are approaching a time of focused energy and fulfilling work.  Tuesday evenings have been a great addition to our worship and community life.  We will, in the next few weeks reconnect with each other  and welcome people who have never walked through these doors.  Last spring, we presented the largest confirmation class in decades- and it is time to challenge nad encourage others to learn more about this way of life and worship- and to encourage them to take a place with us.  We continue to strive to use resources well and to grow in generosity to provides what is necessary for the parish's life and work.  Service to the community has expanded in many ways- and will again this year.  Most of all- we have welcomed seven young people who are living here- and who are spending a year in service, in learning and in prayer- that centers on this a parish's life and mission and that reaches into many, many corners of New Haven.

It's as though the collective parish were humming that stirring hymn-  "Come, labor on, claim the high calling...".   There are still a few weeks of a quieter schedule.    More of us will be in town and in place in the weeks ahead- but already, there is a shift and a spirit of expectation and energy.   Come this Sunday- you'll not only sense it- you will add to it.    And what you bring to it will be essential to the Spirit's work and to the health of Christ's Body in its work and prayer.

Lord Jesus Christ,
who didst stretch out thine arms of love
on the hard wood of the cross
that everyone might come
within the reach of thy saving embrace:
So clothe us in thy Spirit that we,
reaching forth our hands in love,
may bring those who do not know thee
to the knowledge and love of thee;
for the honor of thy Name.
Amen.
